Coupang Deploys Over 2,400 Safety Monitoring Personnel Across Nationwide Rocket Delivery Centers
Strengthening COVID-19 Prevention
Over 1,300 Safety Monitors Hired in One Month... 4.7 Billion KRW Spent on Labor Costs in June Alone
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Coupang announced on the 9th that it will operate a safety monitoring team of about 2,400 members at Rocket Delivery Centers nationwide to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). The safety monitoring team helps employees at each workplace adhere to prevention processes.
The safety monitoring team begins its activities even before logistics center employees start their shifts. The bus safety monitoring team measures the temperature of all employees boarding the commuter buses and checks for mask-wearing. Employees showing suspected COVID-19 symptoms such as fever or cough are not allowed to board the bus. The process safety monitoring team encourages social distancing and the use of hand sanitizers in shared spaces such as logistics center entrances, cafeterias, lounges, as well as along employees' main routes and at each process station.
At the Deokpung Logistics Center alone, which resumed operations without additional infections after the first confirmed case on the 24th, about 300 safety monitoring team members are active. The total size of the safety monitoring teams across all Coupang logistics centers is approximately 1,900. Safety monitoring teams can also be found in the delivery stages after products leave the logistics centers. About 500 delivery camp safety monitoring team members work to ensure that Coupang Men and Coupang Flex comply with preventive measures. Coupang explained that their policy is to leave no small gaps throughout the entire Rocket Delivery process.
To form the 2,400-member safety monitoring team, Coupang hired more than 1,300 additional employees within a month and spent a total of 4.7 billion KRW on labor costs in June alone. Since the early stages of the COVID-19 crisis, Coupang has complied with government quarantine guidelines and implemented various safety measures to prevent and contain the spread of COVID-19. The operation of this safety monitoring team is a decision for even more thorough preventive management following the installation of partitions in cafeterias and the increase of commuter buses for cafeterias.
