Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Labor and Management Begin Wage Negotiations
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] On the 8th, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard's labor and management held a preliminary meeting for the 2020 wage and collective agreement negotiations at the Hanuri Hall in the Ulsan headquarters and began negotiations.
President Shin Hyun-dae said, "The shipbuilding industry and industries worldwide are being hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, so communication and understanding between labor and management are important," adding, "Let us unite with trust and cooperation to firmly protect our workplace even in the post-COVID era."
Labor Union Chairman Kang Won-sik emphasized, "We prepared the demands reflecting the uncertain management conditions as much as possible," and said, "I hope that, as union members have devoted themselves despite the long-term recession, efforts will be made with a positive attitude to stabilize employment and boost member morale."
Labor and management agreed to hold negotiations every Tuesday and Thursday.
The union has submitted demands to the company including a wage increase of 115,746 won (5.75% compared to the base salary, excluding step increases), guaranteed performance bonus of 250%+α, extension of retirement age, abolition of the wage peak system, new hiring and expansion of union member scope, and total employment guarantee.

Last year, labor and management faced difficulties due to large differences in positions during wage negotiations but reached a complete agreement on December 30. The union also conducted a partial strike in October of the same year, the first in 23 years.
