Gyeonggi-do Warns of COVID-19 Spread During Vacation Season: "Please Stagger Your Vacations"
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has issued a warning about the spread of 'COVID-19' during the summer vacation season and has requested that vacations be taken in a staggered manner.
Lee Hee-young, co-head of the Gyeonggi Province COVID-19 Emergency Response Team (Professor at Bundang Seoul National University Hospital Public Medical Project Group), warned at a regular briefing held online at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government briefing room on the 8th, "With the full-scale vacation season starting in July, there is a growing concern that infections currently concentrated in the metropolitan area could spread to other regions through vacationers."
He added, "Just as the spread of COVID-19 increased during the golden holiday period from late April to early May, there is always a risk of COVID-19 lurking wherever there are gaps in the quarantine network," emphasizing, "Please use summer vacations in a staggered way and voluntarily comply with social distancing guidelines."
As of midnight on the 8th, the newly confirmed cases in the province totaled 18, including 6 related to metropolitan area door-to-door sales gatherings, 1 related to Gangnam door-to-door sales, 1 related to an apartment in Uijeongbu, 3 from community transmission, and 7 imported cases.
The number of confirmed cases related to metropolitan area door-to-door sales gatherings increased by 6 compared to midnight the previous day, reaching a total of 24. The 6 additional confirmed cases include 4 related to Goyang Wondang Catholic Church and 2 related to Gunpo medical health food sales company Happy Rang Healing Center, all of whom are contacts such as family members and acquaintances of existing confirmed cases.

Meanwhile, as of midnight on the 8th, the total number of confirmed cases in Gyeonggi Province increased by 18 from the previous day to 1,315. Among them, 1,055 have been discharged, and currently, 236 are isolated in hospitals and residential treatment centers. As of this date, the province has secured 576 treatment beds for confirmed patients in a total of 14 hospitals. Currently, 255 beds, or 44.3%, are in use.
