Gangbuk-gu, Up to 100,000 KRW Annually for New Eco Mileage Members
Incentives Provided to Individual and Group Members Achieving Energy Reduction Above a Certain Standard... Incentives Given in Forms Such as Onnuri Gift Certificates, Apartment Management Fee Deductions, and Cash Conversion
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyum-soo) is continuously recruiting new individual and group members for the Eco Mileage program, which rewards energy savings with mileage points.
Eco Mileage is a system that encourages residents' voluntary participation to reduce energy consumption in homes and workplaces, thereby not only saving energy but also proactively addressing air quality deterioration caused by fine dust and other pollutants.
In 2019, over 3,400 residents newly joined the Eco Mileage program, and individual members received a total of 2,031 incentives amounting to approximately 74 million KRW.
Incentives are provided by comparing greenhouse gas emissions over six-month periods after joining with the same periods two years prior. Registered members also receive periodic analyses of their electricity, city gas, water, and district heating usage.
Individual members who reduce energy consumption by 5-15% receive incentives ranging from 10,000 to 50,000 KRW, while outstanding group members who reduce energy use by more than 10% are awarded incentives worth between 1 million and 10 million KRW. Individual members can receive up to 100,000 KRW in incentives annually.
Incentives can be received as traditional market Onnuri gift certificates, mobile cultural gift certificates, deducted from apartment management fees, or converted into cash.
Those wishing to join can apply through the Eco Mileage website.
Alternatively, applications can be submitted by visiting the district office's Environmental Division or local community centers, or by phone.

A Gangbuk-gu official stated, “Due to the ongoing heatwave and reduced outdoor activities caused by the spread of COVID-19, household energy consumption is increasing. We ask for residents' active participation and interest in Eco Mileage, which helps protect air quality and prevent environmental pollution through energy savings.”
