30-Year-Old Sentenced to 1 Year in Prison for Selling Anesthetic to Wheesung
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A man in his 30s who sold the general anesthetic 'Etomidate,' called the second Propofol, to singer Wheesung (real name Choi Wheesung, 38) has been sentenced to prison.
According to the court on the 1st, Judge Park Jung-gil of the Criminal Division 11 at the Seoul Eastern District Court sentenced Nam Mo (35), who was charged with violating the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act for meeting Wheesung four times between March and April this year and handing over 31 bottles of Etomidate in exchange for a total of 7.7 million won, to one year in prison.
Nam is accused of meeting Wheesung four times from March to April in the Songpa-gu and Gwangjin-gu areas of Seoul and selling 31 bottles of Etomidate for a total of 7.7 million won.
On March 31, Wheesung was found collapsed after administering Etomidate in a restroom of a building in Songpa-gu and was sent home by the police. Two days later, on April 2, he was found again after administering the same drug in a commercial building restroom in Gwangjin-gu.
Since Etomidate is not designated as a narcotic, the police did not book Wheesung and sent him home, but the seller Nam was urgently arrested and detained in April this year.
The court also sentenced Park Mo (27), who manufactured Etomidate and sold it to Nam, to two years in prison and a fine of 5 million won. Park was tried on charges of manufacturing Etomidate without being a licensed pharmacist and selling 80 bottles of it to Nam.
