Jung Eui-sun, Executive Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, visited the ‘2020 Hydrogen Mobility+ Show’ on the 1st to review the entire hydrogen industry ecosystem and express his commitment to new investments.
At the Hydrogen Mobility+ Show held at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, Jung told reporters, “In terms of infrastructure, the government, local governments, and Hyundai Motor Group will join forces to invest,” expressing this intention.
Coinciding with the opening of the hydrogen mobility exhibition, the inaugural ceremony of the ‘1st Hydrogen Economy Committee’ involving both public and private sectors was held. The Hydrogen Economy Committee consists of government members including Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun and ministers from eight ministries, along with eleven private members appointed from industry and academia. Executive Vice Chairman Jung also joined the committee as a private member.
Jung said, “(At this committee) we discussed the overall hydrogen ecosystem, technology, and safety,” adding, “We also talked about deregulation related to hydrogen.” He particularly expressed the intention to proceed with localization of hydrogen charging station components.
On the 1st, the opening ceremony of the 'Hydrogen Mobility+ Show' was held at Goyang KINTEX in Gyeonggi Province. View original imageImmediately after the opening ceremony, Executive Vice Chairman Jung toured the exhibition hall with Prime Minister Chung for about 25 minutes to examine the present and future of the hydrogen industry. Their first stop was the Hyundai booth inside the exhibition, where they received explanations about Hyundai Motor Group’s future mobility vision combining Urban Air Mobility (UAM), Purpose Built Vehicle (PBV), and Mobility Transfer Hub.
Hyundai also exhibited a mobile hydrogen fuel cell generator, showcasing the diverse expansion possibilities of hydrogen fuel cell systems.
Prime Minister Chung showed great interest in Hyundai’s hydrogen electric vehicle Nexo cutaway model. On this day, Executive Vice Chairman Jung attracted attention by announcing plans to release a successor model to the Nexo within 3 to 4 years.
Following this, Prime Minister Chung and Executive Vice Chairman Jung visited booths of the Korea Automotive Technology Institute, Korea Gas Corporation, and Hydrogen Energy Network (HyNet) in sequence. At the Korea Gas Corporation booth, Prime Minister Chung actively inquired about the commercialization status while observing a demonstration of hydrogen construction machinery.
At the HyNet exhibition, CEO Yoo Jong-soo presented a roadmap to establish 100 hydrogen charging stations by 2022. He also emphasized the need to improve public perception of hydrogen safety. Both Prime Minister Chung and Executive Vice Chairman Jung nodded in agreement, showing consensus.

Finally, they visited the integrated booth of three Doosan Group companies: Doosan Fuel Cell, Doosan Mobility Innovation (DMI), and Doosan Fuel Cell Power BU, where they examined hydrogen fuel cell packs for drones capable of flying over two hours and hydrogen drones equipped with these packs.
