Chosun University Optical Business Group Holds Medical Device Support Project Workshop
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Chosun University Ophthalmic Optical Medical Device Globalization Support Project Group recently held the ‘Ophthalmic Optical Medical Device Globalization Support Project Workshop’ at Withus Gwangju to promote project development.
According to Chosun University on the 1st, the workshop hosted by the Ophthalmic Optical Project Group was attended by Go Jae-woong, project director (professor of medicine at the Graduate School of Medicine), along with representatives from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Gwangju Metropolitan City, Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, regional industry-linked organizations, and company officials selected for the project contest.
The workshop consisted of ▲ introduction of the project group ▲ sharing successful case studies of beneficiary companies ▲ a lecture by Professor Choi Si-young of KAIST on ‘Trends in Contact Lens Physical Properties and Material Development’.
Hong Sang-ui, section chief of the Future Industry Policy Division of Gwangju Metropolitan City, received a plaque of appreciation for his contribution to activating network connections among industry, academia, research institutes, and hospitals together with the Ophthalmic Optical Project Group. Merit plaques were awarded to Kim Sun-ho, director of MSC Research Institute, and Jeon Je-yeol, professor at Chosun University College of Medicine.
Professor Go Jae-woong said, “I hope today’s workshop will serve as an opportunity for stakeholders from industry, academia, research, and hospitals to gather in one place and strengthen cooperation.”
Meanwhile, the Chosun University Ophthalmic Optical Project Group will receive support from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Gwangju City until 2025.

With a total investment of 18 billion KRW (8 billion KRW from the national government, 8 billion KRW from Gwangju City, and 2 billion KRW from private funds), the project aims to establish a domestication foundation for the global market entry of domestic small and medium-sized ophthalmic optical medical device companies by building a full-cycle support system covering ▲ product planning and development ▲ product advancement ▲ certification and marketing ▲ market entry stages.
