Carrie Lam, Hong Kong Chief Executive, "No Government Can Ignore National Security Threats"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] On the 30th (local time), when China's Hong Kong National Security Law (Hong Kong Security Law) was passed, Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of Hong Kong, asserted that "no central government can ignore threats to national security and power."
Lam made this statement during a virtual speech at the 44th United Nations Human Rights Council, which opened at the UN Geneva Office that day.
Lam said that although tensions surrounding the Hong Kong Security Law are escalating, she holds hope that Hong Kong will overcome the political storm and regain stability.
She also stated that the international community should respect China's right to safeguard national security.
