CU Holds Customer Appreciation Event to Celebrate 30th Anniversary
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] BGF Retail, the operator of CU, is celebrating its 30th anniversary by holding monthly customer appreciation events from July to October. This event is designed to give back the love received from customers over the past 30 years under the concept of "Your Good Friend CU," which has been by customers' side all along.
First, CU designates the 7th and 9th of each month from July to October as "Friend Day," and the week including Friend Day as "Friend Week," during which popular products will be discounted and CU membership points will be earned through special events.
During the July Friend Week, 12 types of dried snacks such as beef jerky, which are part of a 2+1 promotion, and 18 types of refrigerated and frozen ready-to-eat meals such as smoked duck and spicy pork intestines will be offered with an additional 50% discount when paid with specific payment methods (KakaoPay, BC, NH, Hana). This means customers can buy three products for the price of one. The CU membership point accumulation rate will also increase from the existing 1-2% by an additional 3%, up to a maximum of 5%.
Various events will also be held through the CU membership app "Pocket CU." On the first day of Friend Week, the 6th, starting at 11 a.m., the first 5,000 customers will receive a 50% discount coupon for the 11th winning product of the "New Release Pyeonstorang" contest. The discount coupon can be issued by entering the promotion code provided on CU's official Instagram and YouTube channel (CUtube) into Pocket CU.
On the following day, the 7th, starting at 11 a.m., 10,000 discount coupons allowing purchase of popular CU lunch boxes for 790 won each will be distributed at a rate of 2,000 per hour. On the 9th, at the same time, 20,000 CU mobile gift certificates worth 3,000 won each will be distributed at a rate of 4,000 per hour.
Additionally, CU will offer generous prizes through the "CU Best Friend Festival," an event throughout July where customers can share precious memories with their "good friends."
To participate, customers upload photos or videos capturing memories with friends on their personal social network services (SNS) with the hashtags "#CU" and "#BestFriendFestival," then enter the URL on the Pocket CU app or website. Participants will be entered into a draw to win prizes including a "Galaxy Z (1 person)," "Kodak Mini Shot Retro (3 people)," and "CU mobile gift certificates worth 5,000 won (300 people)."
Moreover, CU has prepared various customer appreciation events such as live broadcasts, customer participation promotions, and social contribution campaigns during the monthly Friend Week periods.
Meanwhile, BGF Retail has written a new chapter in the history of convenience stores in Korea over the past 30 years, starting with its first store, Garak Siyoung Branch, in 1990, launching Korea’s independent brand CU in 2012, and expanding overseas to Mongolia in 2018.
