Samsung Electronics Ranks 4th in 5G Equipment Market Share... Narrowing Gap with Nokia
Gap Between 3rd Place Nokia and Market Share Narrows from 10% to 2%
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Samsung Electronics' market share in the 5G mobile communication equipment market has significantly increased.
According to market research firm Dell'Oro on the 29th, the market share of 5G communication equipment in the first quarter of 2020 ranked Huawei (35.7%), Ericsson (24.8%), Nokia (15.8%), followed by Samsung Electronics at 13.2%, placing 4th.
Among the top 5 companies, Samsung Electronics showed the largest increase in market share, rising by 2.8 percentage points compared to the previous quarter. Samsung narrowed the gap in market share with 3rd place Nokia from over 10 percentage points in the previous quarter to 2.6 percentage points.
Samsung Electronics signed 5G supply contracts with Canada's Vid?otron in December last year, US Cellular in the United States in February this year, Spark in New Zealand in March, and Telus in Canada on the 19th.

Despite sanctions from the U.S. government, Huawei maintained its 1st place by increasing its market share by 0.4 percentage points compared to the previous quarter. This is believed to be due to the full-scale 5G investment in China, which helped Huawei sustain its market share.
