President Moon's Approval Rating at 53.3%... Declines for 5 Consecutive Weeks [Realmeter]
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] President Moon Jae-in's approval rating for his administration showed a decline for the fifth consecutive week, recording in the low to mid-50% range.
According to Realmeter's survey commissioned by YTN conducted from the 22nd to the 26th, the positive evaluation of President Moon's administration dropped by 0.1 percentage points from the previous week's weekly aggregate to 53.3%, announced on the 29th. This marks a decline for five consecutive weeks since recording 62.3% in the third week of May. Meanwhile, negative evaluations rose by 0.9 percentage points to 42.7%. The 'Don't know/No response' category was 4.0%.
By age group, positive evaluations of President Moon's administration were dominant in all age groups except those in their 60s. Notably, support among those in their 20s rebounded by 3.5 percentage points from the previous week to 50.5%. However, this did not offset the 10.2% drop in approval ratings last week when the 'Incheon Airport Corporation Security Guards Regularization' issue (In-guk-gong incident) became prominent.
Regionally, positive evaluations of President Moon in Gwangju and Jeolla dropped by 6.5 percentage points from the previous week to 72.1%. In Seoul, Gyeonggi-Incheon, Daejeon-Sejong-Chungcheong, Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam, and Jeju, positive evaluations each exceeded 50%. Conversely, in Daegu-Gyeongbuk, negative evaluations led with 54.4%, surpassing positive evaluations at 40.3%. In Daejeon-Sejong-Chungcheong and Gangwon, positive and negative evaluations were nearly even.
By party support, 91.2% of Democratic Party supporters and 83.2% of Open Democratic Party supporters gave positive evaluations of President Moon's administration. In contrast, negative evaluations were 87.2% among United Future Party supporters and 65.7% among People’s Party supporters.
Party support ratings showed the Democratic Party rising by 0.6 percentage points to 41.2%, while the United Future Party fell by 1.0 percentage point to 28.1%. The Open Democratic Party increased by 1.1 percentage points to 5.6%, the Justice Party decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 4.2%, and the People’s Party declined by 0.2 percentage points to 3.7%.
