[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] The Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology will hold an online "Bio Issue Conference" on the theme of "Current Status and Prospects of Advanced Biopharmaceuticals for Rare Diseases" on the 3rd of next month at the main auditorium of the headquarters building in Daejeon.
This event is an opportunity to discuss the current status and prospects of developing treatments for rare diseases based on advanced biopharmaceuticals, as well as response and cooperation measures according to the Advanced Regenerative Medicine and Advanced Biopharmaceutical Safety and Support Act (hereinafter referred to as the Advanced Regenerative Bio Act).
Rare diseases refer to illnesses for which research and development related to diagnosis, treatment, and prevention are difficult due to the rarity of patients. These are diseases where patients exist but suitable treatments or therapies have not yet been developed.
Kim Jang-sung, President of the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, stated, "We hope this conference will serve as a platform for experts from industry, academia, research, government, and medical fields to explore new directions for overcoming rare diseases," adding, "Through this conference, we hope to realize medical welfare for marginalized groups and conduct in-depth discussions that can actively respond to the medical needs of the public."
