Park Soo-young: "Mentioning Kim Jong-in and Baek Jong-won is symbolic... Not considering them as candidates themselves"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Park Soo-young, a member of the Future United Party, explained that regarding Kim Jong-in, the emergency committee chairman of the United Party, mentioning "someone like Baek Jong-won, CEO of The Born Korea" as a presidential candidate, and the ensuing "great expectation theory," "he does not consider himself as a candidate."
On the morning of the 29th, Park appeared on YTN Radio's "Noh Young-hee's Start Morning" and stated, "I don't think he considers himself as a candidate. He is quite advanced in age now."
He added, "Originally, when he was a bit younger, there was the great expectation theory, and he even set up a presidential campaign, but now I believe that is not the case."
Regarding the reason for mentioning CEO Baek, he said, "I think it means that since it's difficult to find a (presidential) candidate, he is urging candidates within the party to step up, and I am also making efforts. I consider the mention of CEO Baek as a symbolic metaphor."
He explained, "It is about the qualifications that Chairman Kim thinks our presidential candidate should have. This person (Baek Jong-won) is first of all interesting. He has high public recognition, emphasizes a strong sense of responsibility, and most importantly, he provides solutions to improve the lives of those who run businesses with difficulty on the ground. These points can be highly valued," adding, "I think he used CEO Baek's name to express that he wants a candidate who is popular, interesting, and proposes alternatives."
In some political circles, there is an analysis that Chairman Kim mentioning CEO Baek is because he intends to run as a presidential candidate himself. Jeong Cheong-rae, a member of the Democratic Party, claimed on Facebook, "The United Party's presidential candidate is Kim Jong-in."
