Volvo Forms Partnership with Waymo to Develop 'Level 4 Autonomous Driving'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Volvo Car Group announced on the 29th that it will form a strategic partnership with Waymo, a global leader in fully autonomous driving technology.
Accordingly, Waymo will hold an exclusive partner status in Volvo Car Group's L4 division. L4 refers to Level 4 autonomous driving technology as defined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Based on this, the two companies will first collaborate to integrate Waymo's fully autonomous driving technology, the Waymo Driver, into a completely new mobility-focused electric vehicle platform for ride-hailing services.
Henrik Green, Chief Technology Officer of Volvo Car Group, stated, "Fully autonomous vehicles have the potential to improve road safety to unprecedented levels and to revolutionize the way people live, work, and travel," adding, "This global partnership with Waymo will open new and exciting business opportunities for Volvo Cars."
