Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police Conduct 'Focused Investigation' on Summer Camping Food Companies
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is launching an emergency inspection of camping food companies ahead of the summer vacation season.
The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police announced on the 28th that from the 6th to the 10th of next month, ahead of the peak summer vacation season, they will conduct an intensive investigation to strengthen the safety management of camping food.
The investigation targets 60 companies that manufacture products commonly consumed at campsites, such as meat, sausages, ready-to-cook foods, marinated meat, skewers, and sundae (Korean blood sausage).
The main investigation points include ▲ unsanitary management of workplace facilities and food ▲ use of expired raw materials or storage without "for disposal" labeling ▲ failure to comply with storage standards, among others.
Violations of food storage standards, such as storing frozen products in refrigeration, are punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment or a fine of up to 50 million KRW. Using expired raw materials or storing them without "for disposal" labeling can result in up to 3 years imprisonment or a fine of up to 30 million KRW.
In Chi-kwon, head of the Special Judicial Police of the province, explained, "This investigation is due to the increase in residents enjoying outdoor activities such as camping as the COVID-19 quarantine policy shifts to everyday distancing."

The province recognizes that due to the nature of outdoor activities, food storage is difficult, so thorough hygiene management is necessary at the manufacturing and sales stages. They plan to prevent factors that could harm residents' safety in advance and strongly punish illegal activities according to relevant regulations if detected.
