Gyeongbuk Education Foundation Awards Scholarships to 12 Students Recommended by Veterans Association
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] The Gyeongsangbuk-do Education Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of Education) held a scholarship award ceremony on the 25th at the Provincial Office of Education to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korean War on June 25th, awarding scholarships to descendants of war veterans.
At the ceremony, more than 20 people including descendants of Korean War veterans, Park Bong-chul, head of the Gyeongbuk branch of the Republic of Korea 6.25 War Veterans Association, and education office officials attended. Twelve students recommended by the Veterans Association received designated scholarships. Their guardians attended the event on their behalf.
The Gyeongsangbuk-do Education Scholarship Foundation, established by the Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education in 1997, provides scholarships annually to socially disadvantaged individuals. Last year, to mark the 100th anniversary of the March 1st Movement and the establishment of the Provisional Government, scholarships were awarded to 13 descendants of independence patriots.

Lim Jong-sik, chairman of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Education Scholarship Foundation, emphasized, "We exist today because of the noble sacrifices of those who fought to protect democracy," adding, "We believe it is our duty to educate the spirit of patriotism and to help students grow with a correct view of history."
