Korea-Germany Multilateral Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Regime Strengthening Cooperation Discussed via Video Conference
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The 2nd Korea-Germany Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Consultative Meeting was held on the 24th via a video conference between Seoul and Berlin, chaired by Park Il, Director of Nuclear Non-Proliferation Diplomacy Planning, and R?diger Born, Director of Disarmament, Arms Control, and Cyber Policy at the German Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
Through this disarmament and non-proliferation consultative meeting, both sides exchanged policy views on various topics including △ strengthening the international nuclear non-proliferation regime such as preparations for the evaluation meeting commemorating the 50th anniversary of the entry into force of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) next year △ cooperation within multilateral arms control regimes such as the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), and the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) △ space security, the emergence of new technology weapon systems, and the necessity of multilateral control.
An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained, "Korea and Germany agreed to strengthen cooperation to enhance the multilateral disarmament and non-proliferation regime through regular meetings between the two countries in the future."
