Active Prosecutor Posts Criticism on Internal Network: "Do Not Betray Colleagues Over Suspicions of Prosecutor-Media Collusion"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] A current prosecutor criticized the reports surrounding the internal conflicts within the prosecution over the so-called 'prosecutor-media collusion suspicion' investigation, saying, "Do not use the media to stab your colleagues in the back."
According to the prosecution on the 24th, Park Cheol-wan (48, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 27), a prosecutor at the Busan High Prosecutors' Office, posted a message on the prosecution's internal communication network, E-Pros, the day before stating, "It seems that someone among the colleagues is acting as a source for the media."
In his post, Prosecutor Park said, "I am watching as the investigation process is reported in real-time, severely damaging the honor of those involved, especially senior prosecutors," and asked, "Isn't an investigation a process of determining the presence or absence of charges, and isn't this something that can be done without the help of the media?"
He referred to the strengthened public relations rules and the policy of non-disclosure of indictments, which were reinforced around the time of investigations into former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk and other figures from the ruling party, and pointed out, "Please do not recklessly nullify the hard-won results of reform."
He continued, "If we prosecutors do not respect the honor and human rights of prosecutors more than anyone else, who else will?" and wrote, "Using the media to stab colleagues in the back to achieve one's own goals or to provide material for journalists' articles is something that must never be done as a prosecutor."
