Gwangju Northern Fire Station (Chief Lee Wonyong) announced on the 24th that it held the inauguration ceremony for the 119 Citizen Water Rescue Team to prevent water play safety accidents during the summer season.
The 119 Citizen Water Rescue Team will operate for two months until the end of August at the upper stream of Gwangjuho (Lake Ecological Park, Buk-gu, Chunghyo-dong). During this period, 40 waterfront safety personnel will be organized into pairs on weekends and holidays to carry out activities to prevent water play safety accidents.
They will conduct waterfront patrol activities for safety measures such as inspecting the rescue equipment installed on site, rescuing people in case of emergencies, and preventing drowning accidents, as well as safety guidance and first aid activities.
The Northern Fire Station has completed prior training for waterfront safety personnel on water play safety guidance, first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation to enable them to respond to emergencies for the smooth operation of the 119 Citizen Water Rescue Team.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by 75 people, including waterfront safety personnel and firefighters.
The 119 Citizen Water Rescue Team, composed of 60 waterfront safety personnel, will carry out water play safety accident prevention activities and rescue and first aid activities in case of water accidents around Songsan Recreation Area and the Imgokgyo Bridge area until the end of August, fulfilling the mission of protecting citizens’ safety and lives.

Additionally, they plan to strengthen waterfront patrol activities using vehicle patrols and drones, and hold experiential fire safety education and various promotional events to spread a culture of safety.
