Dobong-gu, Promoting Sustainable 'Green New Deal' Policies
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Former department heads and senior officials of Dobong-gu (Mayor Dongjin Lee) gathered in one place on the 23rd to devise measures to respond to the climate crisis and to promote the ‘Green New Deal’ policy.
The ‘Green New Deal’ is a policy aimed at responding to the climate crisis and resolving inequality by halving greenhouse gas emissions within 10 years and investing large-scale public funds to create green jobs and address the climate crisis.
On this day, the lecture was conducted by Researcher Yujin Lee, currently a researcher at the Green Transition Institute, and serving as a member of the Prime Minister’s Office Green Growth Committee and the Ministry of Environment Central Environmental Policy Committee.
Researcher Yujin Lee presented on the theme of ‘Community-Based Green New Deal in the Post-Corona and Transition Era,’ covering ▲background of Green New Deal discussions and definitions of the Green New Deal ▲local governments and the Green New Deal, examples of local government Green New Deal policies ▲directions for establishing community-based Green New Deal promotion policies.
In this regard, the district has been promoting Green New Deal-related policies in various fields such as social economy, urban regeneration, village making, sharing economy, and food banks through the convergence of civil society and policy.
In particular, ▲operation of Dobong Environmental Education Center, a local environmental education hub ▲activation of EM (Effective Microorganisms) distribution for eco-friendly living ▲Dobong-gu flagship species and biodiversity conservation projects ▲environmental promotion and education projects, and other various projects for environmental and ecological preservation and climate change response have been leading the creation of green jobs.
Going forward, the district plans to continuously implement Green New Deal policies based on the local community to create sustainable green jobs by ▲expanding cooperative governance projects involving various social strata of civil society ▲creating green jobs utilizing women with career interruptions ▲local talent development projects such as resident education instructors.
