Gurye Haksa Relocates to Convenient Subway Line 2 and 7 Station Area
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Miseok] On the 23rd, Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that the Gurye Dormitory, established to nurture talents from Gurye, will be relocated from its current location in Hwagok-dong, Gangseo-gu to Daerim-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, which offers more convenient transportation and accessibility, in July.
The current Gurye Dormitory in Hwagok-dong is the first dormitory built in Seoul by any city or county nationwide. It was established in 1998 based on the Jiwoon Dormitory donated to Gurye-gun by the late Dr. Hong Won-pyo, serving as a reliable home for university students from Gurye. To date, a total of 270 local talents have stayed at the Gurye Dormitory.
However, due to aging facilities and inconvenient transportation, students have faced difficulties, prompting consideration of relocation to a new building since 2018. Approximately 20 properties near Subway Line 2 were reviewed, and a building located in Daerim-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu was purchased earlier this year. Renovations are underway for the relocation of the Gurye Dormitory in July. The total project cost, including building purchase and renovation, is 5 billion KRW.
The Daerim-dong Gurye Dormitory sits on a 416㎡ site with a total floor area of 1,481㎡, consisting of 2 basement floors and 7 above-ground floors. It is a 7-minute walk from Daerim Station, served by Subway Lines 2 and 7, and a 10-minute walk from Guro Digital Complex Station on Subway Line 2.
The dormitory is equipped with air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, induction cooktops, and offers excellent accessibility to major universities, providing optimal conditions for university students.

The dormitory capacity is 24 single rooms. In early July, an additional 10 residents will be recruited besides the current Gurye Dormitory residents. Applicants must be new or current students enrolled in universities or graduate schools located in Seoul or the metropolitan area, and their guardians must have their resident registration in Gurye-gun as of the announcement date. After the additional recruitment, an opening ceremony is scheduled for early September.
