Galaxy Fold 2 and Note 20 Released in August... Differentiated by 'Display'
Galaxy Fold 2 Features a Larger 7.7-Inch Screen
Supports 120Hz Refresh Rate for Clearer, Smoother Display
Camera Specs Battle Ends, Focus Shifts to Display
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The common feature of the new products unveiled in August, such as the Galaxy Fold2 and Galaxy Note20, is the change in the 'display.' The competition in smartphone specs is shifting from cameras to displays.
According to industry sources on the 22nd, the displays and screen refresh rates of the Galaxy Fold2 and Galaxy Note20, which will be unveiled in August, will be improved. Ice Universe, an IT tipster on Twitter, analyzed, "The main display size of the Galaxy Fold2 will increase to 7.7 inches, with a bezel thickness of 3.8mm and a camera hole of 4.8mm," indicating a noticeable improvement compared to last year's model.
The screen will be 0.4 inches larger than the Galaxy Fold (7.3 inches), and with thinner bezels, users will experience a tablet-like expansive display. The price is expected to be released at around $1,780 (approximately 2.16 million KRW) to $2,000 (approximately 2.43 million KRW).
The Galaxy Note20 is expected to be released with a 6.42-inch screen, and the Ultra model with a 6.87-inch screen. The screen refresh rate will also improve from the previous model's 60Hz to 120Hz. This means that not only will the screen be larger, but high-definition videos can be viewed smoothly and clearly.
The screen refresh rate refers to the number of frames displayed per second; the higher the performance, the smoother and more natural the screen transitions during video playback or gaming. Supporting a 120Hz refresh rate on power-hungry 5G smartphones can lead to faster battery drain, but it is analyzed that low-power materials will be adopted to address this issue.
The Galaxy Note20 Ultra model is expected to apply LPTO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) material to reduce power consumption and support resolutions up to WQHD+ (3840x1600), which has three times the pixels of Full HD. The Galaxy Note20 will have an aspect ratio of 19.5:9, and the Galaxy Note20 Plus model will have 19.3:9, making the screen ratio longer than the previous generation.
