Son Yeol-eum and Clara Jumi Kang Duo Stage Performance After 4 Years
·[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] Pianist Son Yeol-eum and violinist Clara Jumi Kang will present a duo stage for the first time in four years on September 4th at the Concert Hall of the Seoul Arts Center.
Son Yeol-eum and Clara first performed as a duo in 2012 at Carnegie Hall in the United States. They then held their first nationwide tour in Korea in 2013, and in 2016, to commemorate the release of their duo album under the DECCA label, they showed fantastic chemistry during their second tour, thrilling numerous audiences.
Son Yeol-eum and Clara began collaborating in 2004 while attending the Korea National University of Arts. Son Yeol-eum was a class of 2002 student, and Clara was a class of 2004 student, making them senior and junior with a particularly close relationship, having performed together longer than anyone else. Clara later proved her skills by winning the Indianapolis, Sendai, and Seoul International Competitions, and has been active mainly in Europe and Asia, performing with world-renowned orchestras under distinguished conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Yuri Temirkanov, and Myung-whun Chung. Son Yeol-eum, who won second prize at the 14th International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in 2011, has continued to stand out internationally, including a successful debut at the BBC Proms. She is also active in various fields as the youngest artistic director of the PyeongChang Daegwallyeong Music Festival and as an author.
For their duo stage after four years, Son Yeol-eum and Clara have personally curated a program featuring pieces that showcase the charms of both violin and piano. The program includes Ravel's Violin Sonata, also known as his "Posthumous Work," Prokofiev's Five Melodies for Violin and Piano, Strauss's only Violin Sonata, and Stravinsky's Divertimento. Among these, the Prokofiev and Strauss pieces have been performed several times on foreign stages, raising expectations for the duo's fantastic chemistry.
