Gwangju Seogu Scholarship Foundation Provides Special COVID-19 Scholarships
60 Selected... Total 45 Million Won
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Scholarship Foundation has provided special scholarships for COVID-19.
According to Seo-gu on the 19th, the Seo-gu Scholarship Foundation selected 60 special scholarship students for COVID-19 and awarded scholarships totaling 45 million KRW following a board resolution held on the 15th.
This special scholarship was prepared to help stabilize the livelihoods of local residents experiencing economic difficulties due to COVID-19.
Reflecting the current depressed economic conditions in the selection of scholarship students, 225 applicants applied for a total of 60 spots, including children of self-employed and small business owners, children of unpaid leave workers, and out-of-school youth.
As a result of the selection, a total of 60 students were chosen: 20 high school students, 30 university students, and 10 out-of-school youth.
The scholarship amount per person is 500,000 KRW for high school students, 1,000,000 KRW for university students, and 500,000 KRW for out-of-school youth, totaling 45 million KRW. To prevent COVID-19, no separate award ceremony was held, and the scholarships were paid directly to individual accounts.
In particular, this time, the support target was expanded to include not only local students facing livelihood difficulties due to the COVID-19 disaster and its prolongation but also out-of-school youth who had been marginalized in the blind spots of talent development, adding greater significance.
A Seo-gu official said, “We will continue to do our best to provide support so that we can overcome difficulties together,” and added, “We plan to select scholarship students in the second half of the year as well, so we ask for your interest and attention.”
