'Welcome to Video' Son Jung-woo Extradition Detention Period Extended Until August
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The detention period for Son Jeong-woo (24), the operator of the world's largest child sexual exploitation site 'Welcome to Video,' has been extended by two months for extradition purposes.
According to the legal community on the 19th, the Seoul High Court Criminal Division 20 (Chief Judge Kang Young-soo) recently accepted the prosecution's request to extend the detention period and made this decision.
Son's detention period was originally scheduled to end at the end of this month, two months after the prosecution executed the extradition arrest warrant on April 27. However, with the extension, he will remain in custody until the end of August.
The court had planned to decide on Son's extradition at the second extradition review hearing on the 16th. However, it judged that additional hearings were necessary and postponed the final decision to the 6th of next month.
Son was arrested and indicted in March 2018 on charges including distributing sexual exploitation materials while operating the Welcome to Video site from July 2015 to March 2018.
