Speaker Park had planned to hold the plenary session that day to additionally elect the chairpersons of the National Assembly standing committees for the remaining organization of the 21st National Assembly. Earlier, on the 15th, ruling parties including the Democratic Party unilaterally elected six standing committee chairpersons, such as the Legislation and Judiciary Committee and the Planning and Finance Committee, in a plenary session where the United Future Party did not participate. United Future Party floor leader Joo Ho-young protested this by expressing his intention to resign and went into seclusion.
