[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Seoul City will showcase new exhibitions including works by four artists selected through a planning contest, the 'Nature Project' themed on nature, and a 'Citizen Video Exhibition' at the large-scale media art museum 'Seoullo Media Canvas' located near Manri-dong Square in Jung-gu, Seoul, starting from the 21st.
Seoullo Media Canvas is a large screen measuring 29 meters wide and 7.7 meters high, installed atop the Woori Bank Jungnim-dong branch building on the west side of Seoullo. It is a new type of media platform where visitors can enjoy artworks while walking along Seoullo 7017.
This initiative is significant as it expands the scope of existing public art, which was centered on installed sculptures, into the media field. It operates as a platform enabling interactive communication through citizen participation. Recently, it has gained attention as a space for artists who find it difficult to present their works in indoor venues such as exhibition halls and theaters due to COVID-19 to showcase their artistic worlds.
In the '2020 Seoullo Media Canvas Planning Contest Solo Exhibition,' about 40 key works (approximately 10 pieces each) by four artists?Kim Tae-eun, Jo Young-joo, Lee Ye-seung, and Choi Chan-sook?were selected from 62 applicants through a screening process and will be exhibited.
Additionally, the 'Nature Project Exhibition' featuring six artists (Song Ju-hyung, Lim Su-jin, Kim Jae-wook, Kim Seo-ryang, Jang Sung-geon, Kim Ji-hyun) themed on nature, and the 'Citizen Video Exhibition' submitted through an ongoing open call, will present fresh and special works to the public. Citizen videos can be submitted via email and include videos under one minute on any topic, UCC, animations, or daily life video diaries.
Previously, Seoullo Media Canvas also broadcast support videos to encourage and cheer on citizens and medical staff enduring difficult times due to COVID-19.
