View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, held an on-site economic meeting titled 'Let's Run Again, Gyeongbuk' with businesspeople in Gumi on the 17th to seek ways to revitalize the local economy early, which has been in crisis since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The 'Let's Run Again, Gyeongbuk' on-site meeting has been promoted as part of Governor Lee Cheol-woo's direct field administration, visiting places on foot since May.
Gyeongbuk Province aims to transform the existing core industry, the electronics industry, into a high value-added industry based on ICT technology by linking Gumi National Industrial Complex as a hub with Gimcheon 1 Industrial Complex, Seongju Industrial Complex, and Waegwan Industrial Complex through the large-scale renovation project of industrial complexes. It also aims to establish a Gyeongbuk-specialized ICT convergence materials and components cluster to foster the future car new industry.
Before the 'Let's Run Again, Gyeongbuk' economic meeting, Governor Lee Cheol-woo held an on-site meeting with businesspeople at Intops Co., Ltd. to listen to industrial field difficulties and suggestions to enhance the effectiveness of the Gyeongbuk industrial complex renovation project. The meeting was attended by Governor Lee, Kim Yong-gi, Vice Chairman of the Job Committee, Jang Se-yong, Mayor of Gumi, Kim Jeong-hwan, Chairman of the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, and Park Hyo-deok, Director of the Gumi Electronics and Information Technology Institute.
At the meeting chaired by Vice Chairman Kim Yong-gi, various suggestions were made, including the early expansion of smart factories and the increase of government subsidies for this purpose, as well as support for building specialized complexes for materials and components companies. Gumi City reflected the opinions of local companies wishing to designate the Gumi National 5 Industrial Complex as a rental-only complex to improve the high sale price and low sales rate due to the economic downturn.
Later in the afternoon, at the 'Let's Run Again, Gyeongbuk' economic meeting held at the Gumi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, about 120 people including Governor Lee Cheol-woo, Mayor Jang Se-yong, Chairman Jo Jeong-moon of the Gyeongbuk Chamber of Commerce Council, local members of the National Assembly, and company representatives attended to share the economic trends of Gyeongbuk and discuss ways to revitalize the local economy in the post-COVID-19 era.
Kim Ho-jin, Director of the Job Economy Office of Gyeongbuk Province, who announced the economic revitalization measures of Gyeongsangbuk-do that day, diagnosed, "Due to the COVID-19 crisis, Gyeongbuk is expected to experience negative growth. In particular, the operating rate of small and medium manufacturing industries has continuously declined, decreasing by 10.5% in April compared to the previous year, falling below the national average, indicating that Gyeongbuk's COVID-19 economic situation is at a serious level."

Governor Lee Cheol-woo, who presided over the meeting, said, "This meeting was a meaningful time to overcome the crisis and create new opportunities through awareness and reflection on the local economic situation," and added, "I thank the local company representatives who are maintaining exports and employment despite the difficult situation caused by COVID-19, and as governor, I will do my best to help the local economy regain vitality."
