View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) announced on the 17th that it has signed a business agreement with the Jeonnam Multicultural Family Support Center Association (President Kim Jong-sik) to successfully host the 2021 Wando International Seaweed Expo.
On the 16th, the county held a business agreement at the Wando County Office Situation Room with the participation of the heads of 22 multicultural family support centers from Jeonnam’s cities and counties, agreeing to establish a mutual cooperation system to ensure the successful hosting of the ‘2021 Wando International Seaweed Expo.’
Currently, the Jeonnam Multicultural Family Support Center Association includes 22 multicultural family support centers in Jeonnam, and the number of marriage immigrants residing in Jeonnam is recorded as 11,791.
Kim Jong-sik, president of the Jeonnam Multicultural Family Support Center Association, said, “We will actively promote and support so that more multicultural families can participate in the 2021 Wando International Seaweed Expo than in the 2017 expo.”
In response, Wando County stated that it will spare no administrative support such as interpretation and event guidance to ensure smooth expo attendance for multicultural families.
Governor Shin Woo-cheol (Chairman of the Seaweed Expo Organizing Committee) said, “The 2021 Wando International Seaweed Expo, marking its third edition, is the world’s first expo focused on seaweed.” He added, “We plan to hold it as an industrial expo so that Wando-produced seaweed can secure overseas markets for the globalization of Korea’s seaweed industry.”
He also stated, “Through the expo, we will promote Wando as the center of the seaweed industry and establish the marine healing industry using seaweed as a new regional industry model, creating an opportunity for Wando to take a leap forward.”
Starting with the business agreement with the Jeonnam Multicultural Family Support Center Association, Wando County plans to sign agreements with the Korea Multicultural Family Support Center Association and associations in Gwangju and Jeonbuk.

The 2021 Wando International Seaweed Expo will be held from April 23 to May 16 next year for 24 days under the theme “Sea of Healing, the Future of Hope Opened by Seaweed” at the Wando Port area.
