Gangnam-gu Provides Up to 1.2 Billion KRW in Employment Retention Support Funds, the Largest in Seoul
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) has received over 1,700 applications for employment retention support funds by the end of May to overcome the employment crisis, disbursing a total of 1.2 billion KRW, the highest amount among Seoul's autonomous districts.
The number of employment retention support fund applications received by the district accounts for 13.8% of the total 12,300 applications across Seoul, and the support fund amount reaches 14.4% of the city's total 8.3 billion KRW.
Payments have been made to approximately 500 local businesses, and due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the eligibility has been expanded since last month to include companies with fewer than 50 employees.
The employment retention support fund is an allowance paid to workers on unpaid leave to sustain their livelihood, with a maximum payment of up to 1 million KRW over two months.
Any worker who has been on unpaid leave for five or more days per month and enrolled in employment insurance since February 23 can apply. However, sole proprietors, spouses of business owners, and relatives within the fourth degree of kinship are excluded.
