This is due to the rapid increase in additional confirmed cases who had contact with a pastor couple and visitors to a multi-level marketing facility who tested positive for COVID-19.
According to Daejeon City on the 17th, Pastor A (#47, in his 60s) and his wife B (#48, in her 60s) of a church located in Galma-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, developed symptoms between the 10th and 11th, visited the Seo-gu Public Health Center screening clinic on the 15th for diagnostic testing, and were confirmed positive for COVID-19 around 10 p.m. the following day. They were admitted to the negative pressure ward at Chungnam National University Hospital.
The city confirmed that Pastor A and his wife had not recently visited any areas outside Daejeon and always wore masks when going out.
However, on the 12th, one contact (#51, a woman in her 50s residing in Seo-gu) who was at a restaurant near the church visited by the couple was confirmed positive for COVID-19. On the 14th, it was confirmed that Pastor A, his wife, and church members attended a worship service together, making it difficult to rule out the possibility of further infections.
The church congregation of Pastor A consists of 11 people, including the couple, among whom was a parent who attended the worship service on the 14th with their child.
Because of this, the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education took measures on the 16th to send all students of Daejeon Bongsan Elementary School home early after two students who had contact with the couple attended school. Fortunately, the two students who had contact with the couple tested negative in diagnostic tests.
On the day Pastor A and his wife were confirmed positive, a woman in her 60s residing in Boksu-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, C (#49), was also confirmed positive for COVID-19. It was confirmed that C developed symptoms on the 11th, visited the Seo-gu Public Health Center screening clinic, and was confirmed positive on the 15th.
The problem with C is that her movement routes are diverse and include long-distance travel, increasing the likelihood of 'n-th generation infections.' In fact, on the 16th alone, five close contacts were simultaneously confirmed positive for COVID-19 after C's diagnosis, raising concerns.
The city confirmed that between the 9th and 15th, C used multiple public facilities in Daejeon, including restaurants, a product briefing session at a multi-level marketing facility (in Goejeong-dong), and a beauty salon. Additionally, during the same period, C visited her child's home in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, and her sister's home in Nonsan.
Following C's movement routes, a total of 32 close contacts have been identified so far. Among them, a woman in her 50s (#50) who was with C between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the 10th was the first to be confirmed positive for COVID-19. Subsequently, a woman in her 60s (#52) residing in Seo-gu, a woman in her 50s (#53) and a man in his 50s (#54) residing in Yuseong-gu, and a woman in her 50s (#55) residing in Sejong City were confirmed positive one after another.
In summary, on the same day, the 16th, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Daejeon increased by nine (Pastor A and his wife plus one contact, C plus five contacts).
