Seocho District Partners with Seocho and Bangbae Police Stations for Joint Response to Child Abuse and Women's Safety
On the 16th, Seocho-gu, Seocho and Bangbae Police Stations signed a tripartite MOU to establish a community safety net for children, adolescents, women, and single-person households... Strengthening proactive prevention and response to child abuse, a social issue, discovering women's safety projects, and enhancing safety care collaboration to prevent solitary deaths among single-person households
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seocho-gu (Mayor Jo Eun-hee) will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the 16th with Seocho Police Station (Chief Choi Jong-hyuk) and Bangbae Police Station (Chief Son Dong-young) to establish a safety network for the local community, focusing on children and adolescents, women, and single-person households.
Due to COVID-19, this agreement ceremony will be conducted in writing. The main contents include discovering projects and cooperation for the prevention and response to child abuse and strengthening women's safety, as well as enhancing the safety care network to protect single-person households and prevent solitary deaths.
In particular, the district will strengthen proactive prevention and response to the recent series of child abuse cases. From June 10 for one month, the district and police stations will conduct a full survey of children at risk of abuse by directly visiting households suspected of child abuse together with child protection agencies and the education office to detect children in crisis in advance.
Additionally, in October, dedicated child abuse officers will be assigned to closely cooperate with the police stations in investigations, on-site responses, facility admissions, and linking welfare resources to build a more thorough safety net.
Collaboration to enhance women's safety will also be further strengthened. Although many improvements have been made since the Gangnam Station restroom female murder incident, the district plans to upgrade the ‘Station Area Safety Zone’ by intensifying joint inspections with the police, especially in areas with many entertainment venues such as Gangnam Station, installing emergency bells, and applying crime prevention fluorescent materials to ensure the safety of women who still feel uneasy.
Public restrooms and multi-use facilities frequently used by women will be thoroughly inspected together by hidden camera security officers and the police.
Along with this, efforts will be combined to discover new projects and analyze crime rates. Ideas will be brainstormed regarding the women’s single-person household safety service, which provides free installation of home security systems for vulnerable women living alone, and CCTV child and women crime prevention broadcast systems.
Furthermore, the Urban Canvas project, which prevents crime by improving the landscape of neglected urban spaces using art techniques, will be carried out in cooperation, including recommending vulnerable target sites, analyzing crime rate trends, and conducting resident satisfaction surveys.
The district will also install ‘Smart Care Plugs’ using IoT for the increasing number of single-person households in the city to prevent solitary deaths in cooperation with the police. If no power or light level changes are detected for a certain period through the plug, an alarm will be sent to the district’s welfare planner, and if a risky situation such as solitary death is suspected, the district and police will visit together to provide safety care for single-person households.
