In the Wando region last year, seven typhoons moved north, and in Geumil-eup, hourly rainfall exceeded 60ml, increasing the importance of disaster preparedness.
Accordingly, Geumil-eup (Eupjang Lim Gyu-jeong) announced on the 12th that it is thoroughly preparing in advance to protect the lives of residents and minimize property damage in preparation for natural disasters and calamities.
About 200 million KRW was invested in drainage channels in more than 10 major flood-prone areas, and since February this year, dredging of drainage channels and sewers clogged with sediment, whose drainage function had deteriorated, has been completed.
Additionally, designating Disaster Safety Day, quarterly comprehensive inspections and operation drills are conducted on two drainage pumping stations in the area to prevent casualties in case of sudden heavy night rainfall or flash floods.
On the 1st, a business agreement was signed with the Geumil Heavy Equipment Association to ensure rapid emergency recovery support in case of disaster, striving to minimize secondary damage caused by delays in emergency recovery by promptly providing recovery equipment and manpower.
Furthermore, to ensure sufficient compensation for housing damage in case of disaster, promotion and encouragement of group enrollment in flood and wind insurance, promoted by Wando-gun, led to about 200 residents from disaster-risk areas and general residents subscribing to the insurance during May.
Going forward, continuous promotion will be carried out through village chief meetings to ensure that more than 90% of households in the area subscribe to flood and wind insurance.
In this way, Geumil-eup plans to establish a proactive natural disaster response system with the goal of realizing the disaster countermeasure motto, "There may be disasters, but no damage," minimizing loss of life and property caused by flood and wind disasters.
