On the 11th at 11 a.m., BPA announced that four organizations, including the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office, Busan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office, and Busan City, signed a "Business Agreement for Reducing Fine Dust in Port Areas" at the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
According to the "Southeast Region Air Environment Management Basic Plan Establishment and Implementation," BPA aims to reduce the concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) from 21㎍/㎥ last year to 17㎍/㎥ by 2024 and enhance the effectiveness of related policies by participating in the business agreement with agencies managing the air environment in port areas.
Through this agreement, the related agencies will share the goal of reducing fine dust in the Busan area and the Southeast region by dividing roles according to the characteristics and missions of each institution.
BPA and the Busan Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office will focus on projects to reduce emissions from cargo handling equipment and ships within the port, such as supplying LNG yard tractors, attaching emission reduction devices, and installing and operating shore power supply facilities.
Busan City will oversee reduction measures in the transportation sector, including attaching diesel particulate filters (DPF) to old diesel vehicles entering the port and early scrapping.
The Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office will expand IoT-based fine dust measurement networks and air monitoring networks to continuously monitor air quality and share air quality information with related agencies, managing the contents of the agreement comprehensively.
Each agency will regularly check the implementation status of detailed tasks through regular meetings. To reduce high concentrations of fine dust, they will strengthen management of fine dust emission sources within the port and establish a joint response manual for reducing scattered dust, thereby building a response system.
