Changwon City Holds the 33rd Anniversary Ceremony of the June 10 Democratic Uprising

The ceremony, hosted by the Gyeongnam Project Association for the Succession of the Spirit of the June Democracy Movement, was attended by about 100 people including Heo Seong-mu, Mayor of Changwon, Kim Kyung-soo, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, Kim Ji-soo, Chairman of the Gyeongnam Provincial Council, Park Jong-hoon, Superintendent of Gyeongnam Provincial Office of Education, and leaders of democratization movement organizations.
The ceremony began with a video depicting the history of the struggle for democracy from 1987 to the present day, followed by commemorative speeches, congratulatory remarks, and speeches on the succession of the spirit, renewing its significance. It concluded with all participants singing the "March for the Beloved."
This year’s ceremony, marking the 33rd anniversary, specially featured the original play "Arrow of June" with the theme "Let’s go and never come back," to reflect on the yearning for democracy and the spirit of struggle. Although the performance was held without an audience due to COVID-19 quarantine measures, Changwon City plans to provide the public with opportunities to watch the performance through online media such as YouTube.

Mayor Heo Seong-mu said at the ceremony, "The democracy we enjoy today was made possible because of the 6.10 Democracy Movement, a history of justice and victory," adding, "This year marks the 10th anniversary of the unified Changwon City, and remembering the passionate spirit of that day, we will build Changwon as a future city of great economic leap and innovation."
