Gwangju City to Operate Riverside Axis Bicycle Hub Terminal Starting from the 13th
Every Saturday and Sunday... Bicycle Expert Service Provided
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The 'Riverside Bicycle Hub Terminal' (hereinafter referred to as 'Hub Terminal'), whose operation was delayed due to COVID-19, will begin operation from the 13th.
The Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 11th that eight hub terminals located along the Gwangjucheon and Yeongsan Riverside Bicycle Paths will operate every Saturday and Sunday starting from the 13th.
The hub terminals utilize the space under bridges to provide services to citizens using bicycles, such as free bicycle maintenance, public bicycle rental, and bicycle path guidance.
Each hub terminal will have two bicycle experts assigned and will operate every Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. until the end of November, excluding the peak summer months of July and August.
The hub terminals are located at three spots along Gwangjucheon: Yongsan Bridge, Jungang Bridge, and Dongcheon Bridge; and five spots along Yeongsan River: Cheomdan Bridge, Eodeungdae Bridge, Sandong Bridge, Geungnak Bridge, and Seungchonbo. Among these, public bicycles can be rented at five hub terminals: Jungang Bridge, Dongcheon Bridge, Cheomdan Bridge, Eodeungdae Bridge, and Sandong Bridge.
Last year, the hub terminals operated 43 to 45 times each, providing free maintenance to 24,460 bicycles, receiving positive responses from users of the Gwangjucheon and Yeongsan Riverside Bicycle Paths.
Meanwhile, starting next month, Gwangju City will pilot operate 200 unmanned public bicycles called ‘Tarangkke’ in the Sangmu district. Unlike the existing rental stations where users visit to rent and return bicycles, this system allows payment and immediate use at the bicycle’s location.
Gwangju City plans to review the possibility of expanding the operation after addressing issues arising during the pilot operation.
