Portrait of Teacher Jeon Woo, donated to Buan-gun by descendants... 'A great help for historical research'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Gominhyeong] Buan County announced on the 9th that it received a donation of the Ganjae portrait, inherited through generations, from Mr. Jeon and his mother (Ms. Jeong), who reside in Busan.
▲ The portrait is believed to be a 1911 work by painter Chae Yong-shin, known as a royal portrait artist, ▲ depicting Ganjae Jeon Woo at the age of 70. ▲ It is in good preservation condition and is evaluated as an artifact with high academic value.
Mr. Jeon explained the reason for the donation, saying, “As a descendant of Ganjae Jeon Woo, the portrait has been passed down through generations in our family, and my mother decided to donate it. Since Buan has many traces of Ganjae Jeon Woo, such as the Ganjae Seonsaeng Yuji (Provincial Monument No. 23), where the teacher raised numerous disciples, I want to contribute a small effort so that many people can learn about him.”
The donation ceremony was held modestly on the 3rd floor of Buan County Office in the county governor’s office at the request of Mr. Jeon and his mother.
At the ceremony, Kwon Ik-hyun, the governor of Buan County, said, “We deeply appreciate the noble intention of personally practicing the beautiful sharing of cultural heritage and will preserve it well,” and presented a plaque of appreciation.

Lee Chun-ho, head of the Culture and Tourism Division, said, “The donated portrait will be designated as a cultural asset through academic research and displayed at the newly established Buan History and Culture Center and the Ganjae Seonsaeng Yuji so that many people can see it.”
