Intensive Crackdown on 'Defective Imported Devices' at Incheon Airport and Others... Investigation into Electromagnetic Interference
[Asia Economy Reporter Seolgina Jo] The government will intensively inspect imported devices at Incheon Airport, Busan Port, and other locations for electromagnetic interference and the presence of the National Integrated Certification Mark.
The Radio Testing and Certification Center of the National Radio Research Agency under the Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 10th that from the 11th until the end of this month, it will conduct joint inspections with the Korea Customs Service to ensure that imported devices properly comply with electromagnetic compatibility standards. These standards are technical criteria established to prevent devices from malfunctioning due to electromagnetic waves emitted by themselves or from other information and communication or electronic devices.
This joint investigation will primarily target monitors, headsets, dehumidifiers, adult products, tablet PCs, seasonal items such as portable fans, and portable air conditioners, which have recently seen a rise in complaints and cases of fraudulent or improper certification. It will also verify whether these devices bear the KC mark, the National Integrated Certification Mark. If violations are found, sanctions such as customs clearance denial, corrective orders, and fines will be imposed.
This year, inspections will be conducted not only at Incheon Airport, Incheon Port, and Busan Port but also at Pyeongtaek Port. The number of items inspected is expected to increase from approximately 270,000 units last year to about 350,000 units.
Additionally, the Radio Testing and Certification Center plans to hold an informational session in July to guide manufacturers, importers, and sellers on how to apply for electromagnetic compatibility testing and certification, including the necessary submission documents, and to promote this process.
