Hong Jun-pyo: "The Essence of Basic Income System is Socialist Rationing System"
"Useless Basic Income Debate... What Matters Is Strengthening Welfare for the Common People"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Hong Joon-pyo, former leader of the Liberty Korea Party, stated on the 8th that "there was a time when economic democratization, which was merely a supplementary rule, overshadowed the constitutional principle of a free market economy and acted as if it were the principle itself," adding, "The essence of the basic income system currently being discussed is no different from implementing a socialist rationing system."
On the same day, Hong said on Facebook, "For the basic income system to be implemented, the public must accept a drastic increase in taxes and the current welfare system must be completely reorganized."
Hong criticized, "Do those who advocate for the basic income system even know why the wise Swiss people rejected it with 77% opposition?"

He also expressed regret, saying, "It is unfortunate that the political reality focuses on whether to introduce a socialist rationing system instead of thinking about reviving the economic foundation collapsing due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19)," and added, "What is important is strengthening welfare for the common people rather than engaging in a pointless debate over the basic income system."
