Mokpo City Announces Vision as One of South Korea's Top 4 Tourist Cities

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Ki-dong] Mokpo City held a ceremony on the 5th at Peace Square to commemorate its selection as one of Korea's four major tourist cities, presenting the future vision of ‘Mokpo, a tourist city visited by people worldwide,’ ‘Mokpo full of taste, style, and excitement,’ and ‘Mokpo, a tourist city where past, present, and future coexist.’

The declaration event for Korea's four major tourist cities included a report on the selection process of the tourism hub city, a video screening showcasing the past, present, and the brilliantly transforming future of the romantic port city Mokpo, and a joint performance by the municipal art troupe.

Along with this, the ‘Tourism City Mokpo 2025 Vision’ ceremony, which contains four goals for leaping forward as a representative global tourist city of Korea by 2025 when the tourism hub city project is completed, followed, declaring Mokpo as one of Korea's four major tourist cities together with its citizens.

The tourism hub city project will invest 100 billion KRW (50% national funds, 50% local funds) by 2024 to comprehensively promote the establishment of a tourism brand strategy, development of regionally specialized tourism resources and content, improvement of urban accessibility and hospitality, and promotion and marketing.

At the vision declaration ceremony, Mayor Kim Jong-sik stated, “Mokpo has reached a turning point to become a new pillar of tourism in Korea,” and expressed his determination, saying, “Through the tourism hub city development project, we will leap forward as Korea’s representative global tourist city attracting 15 million tourists by 2025.”
