Myungseong TNS Selected for National Project to Develop Large-Area Separator Manufacturing Equipment for Secondary Batteries
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Myungseong TNS announced on the 5th that it has been selected as a business operator for the Core Technology Development Project for the Machinery Industry, led by the Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology (KEIT) under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and has signed an agreement.
The research project selected as a national task is to develop equipment capable of simultaneously coating both sides of large-area electric vehicle battery separators. The research project runs until December 31, 2022, and Myungseong TNS will receive approximately 1.9 billion KRW out of the 2.7 billion KRW research and development budget from the government.
Myungseong TNS is a specialized company in secondary battery manufacturing equipment and is the only domestic manufacturer of separator pre-process equipment.
The separator is a core material that separates the anode and cathode inside the secondary battery to prevent electrical short circuits and allows ions to move between the two electrodes. Separator coating is one of the separator manufacturing processes necessary to improve the efficiency and thermal stability of secondary batteries.
Through this research project, Myungseong TNS will develop separator coating equipment with a width of 800mm class area. The equipment to be developed features simultaneous double-sided coating to increase productivity and the application of a coagulation module to enhance adhesion.
