A man in his 50s charged for distributing milk laced with sleeping pills for tasting
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Min Jun-young] A man in his 50s who handed out sample milk containing zolpidem to women and others at an apartment in Cheongju, Chungbuk, was arrested by the police.
Cheongju Heungdeok Police Station announced on the 4th that they had booked A (52) without detention on charges of violating the Special Act on Sexual Violence Crimes for handing out sample milk containing zolpidem to female residents.
A is accused of approaching a brother and sister in their 20s and a woman in her 40s near an apartment complex in Bokdae-dong, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju, Chungbuk, on the afternoon of the 2nd, deceiving them by saying it was sample milk, and handing them milk containing the sleeping pill zolpidem.
A, who has no special occupation, is reported to have disguised himself as a promotional salesperson and requested milk tasting and a survey.
Three residents who drank the milk handed out by A complained of dizziness a few hours later and were transported to the hospital.
The police secured the milk that the victims drank and requested a component analysis from the National Forensic Service, and were notified that zolpidem, a sleeping pill ingredient, was detected.
Considering that A targeted women as victims, the police changed the charge from initial injury to violation of the Special Act on Sexual Violence Crimes.
A is reported to have admitted during the police investigation that he put sleeping pills in the milk.
The police plan to apply for an arrest warrant against A on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes.
