Police Executive Involved in Local Business Interests Sent to Prosecution for Detaining and Threatening Civilians
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] A police officer under investigation for detaining civilians and forcing false statements by interfering in local business interests has been handed over to the prosecution.
The Serious Crime Investigation Division of the National Police Agency announced on the 4th that Sergeant Lee, affiliated with the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency, was recently sent to the prosecution with a recommendation for indictment.
Sergeant Lee is suspected of intervening in a business dispute involving a food processing company in the Gyeongnam area.
In April of last year, after the military supply contract was canceled, CEO Jeong of food processing company A arrested subsidiary CEO Jang on embezzlement charges and planned to take over Jang's funeral home business, which he then carried out.
Jeong mobilized gangsters to detain and threaten company director Noh to obtain testimony to imprison Jang. When Noh, unable to withstand the threats, testified that "Jang embezzled company funds," Sergeant Lee appeared and was found to have drafted the embezzlement complaint.
After being released from detention, Noh filed a complaint against Sergeant Lee and Jeong for detention and coercion, and the National Police Agency recently concluded the investigation and handed the case over to the prosecution.
