Large Mart to Hold Massive Discount Event This Weekend
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Large supermarkets are holding massive discount events this weekend. Large supermarkets, excluded from the government's emergency disaster relief fund usage, plan to attract customers through these discount events.
Lotte Mart is conducting the ‘Tongkeunjeol’ event over the weekend, offering 8 billion KRW worth of products at shockingly low prices.
First, Korean beef sirloin is offered at up to 50% off the regular price. Korean beef, previously sold at 11,000 KRW and 13,200 KRW each, will be sold to L.POINT members at 7,700 KRW and 9,240 KRW respectively, and if paid with the designated card, the price drops further to 5,470 KRW and 6,560 KRW each.
Considering the increased demand for breathable disposable masks due to the hot weather, domestically produced masks are also prepared at shockingly low prices. For two days only, 2 million domestic masks will be sold at 580 KRW per piece. The card discount price for ‘50 domestic masks’ is 29,000 KRW.
Until August 31, Lotte Mart will give discount coupons to customers using leased stores (excluding food courts) at 121 stores nationwide, regardless of purchase amount. These coupons offer a 3,000 KRW discount on purchases over 30,000 KRW at Lotte Mart and can be obtained by presenting the leased store receipt at the ‘We Will Help You’ counter. The coupons are valid until September 14.
Emart is conducting a large-scale 1+1 and up to 50% discount event on key shopping basket product categories.
On Saturday and Sunday, bananas, diapers, liquid detergents, and more will be offered with exceptional benefits. Banavelli bananas are offered at 2,980 KRW with a 1+1 deal. All items including fried dumplings, instant curry and black bean sauce, Lotte Xylitol gum, liquid detergent, kitchen detergent, hair dye and treatment, and Oral-B toothbrushes are sold as 1+1.
During the same period, Huggies and Mamypoko diapers, Febreze fabric deodorizer, branded kitchen towels, facial cleansers, and refrigerated cold noodles are offered at 50% off when purchasing two items. Additionally, through card promotions, all iPad Pro and Mac products are 7-10% off, and 12 selected Nintendo and PS4 title products are up to 70% cheaper.
There is also a one-day event on Saturday. Orion Choco Pie and other cake-type snacks, single cup ramen (limited to 12 per person), and ssamjang are offered as 1+1, all jelly products are 2+1, all 3M scrubbers are 40% off, and all wines under 30,000 KRW are 20% off.
Emart expects that through this event, consumers struggling due to the economic downturn caused by COVID-19 will be able to purchase daily necessities at affordable prices, and the influx of customers will also benefit leased stores within Emart.
Homeplus is holding the ‘Samsiyukki’ special exhibition for a week until the 10th at nationwide stores and online malls, offering major livestock products including Korean beef at big deal prices. The idea is to sell meat cheaply enough to enjoy six meals a day with meat, as meat consumption has doubled.
For My Homeplus members, Nonghyup Safe Korean beef is sold at a 30% discount, and all Australian chilled beef products are offered at up to 40% off. Imported pork belly and neck meat (from Canada) are also offered at a big deal price of 1,290 KRW per 100g.
