[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yuseonghun) announced on the 3rd that the 17th and 18th confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) have occurred.
The 17th confirmed case is a 51-year-old woman, Ms. A, who lives with her family of four in Doksan 1-dong. It was revealed that she worked part-time for one day on May 24 at the Bucheon Coupang Logistics Center. The 18th confirmed case is a 30-year-old man, Mr. B, who lives with his spouse in Gasan-dong and is a contact of the 14th confirmed case in Gangbuk-gu.
Ms. A entered self-quarantine starting May 27, when infections originating from the Coupang Logistics Center began to spread. She tested negative in the first test on May 26 before entering self-quarantine, but showed coughing symptoms from May 28 and was finally confirmed positive in the second test conducted on June 2.
Mr. B underwent the first test on May 28, when the 14th confirmed case in Gangbuk-gu was reported, and was placed under self-quarantine. Although he tested negative in the first test, he developed a sore throat from June 1 and was finally confirmed positive in the second test conducted on June 2.
The district plans to transfer Ms. A and Mr. B to Seonam Hospital, a nationally designated hospital, and will place their cohabiting family members under self-quarantine and conduct tests.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in the district is 18, with cases 1 to 13 having recovered and cases 14 to 16 currently undergoing treatment.

Yuseonghun, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “To prevent the spread of infection within the community, we will thoroughly disinfect the areas around the residences of the confirmed cases and promptly identify and disclose their movement paths based on their statements and epidemiological investigations. As confirmed cases caused by external contacts have been increasing recently, we ask residents to strictly follow the life quarantine guidelines at workplaces and other places.”
