Jomyeongrae Meets Industry: "Korean-style Green New Deal is a New Engine for Innovative Growth"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Minister of Environment Cho Myung-rae emphasized that in the post-COVID-19 era, the Korean-style Green New Deal will become a new engine for innovative growth by meeting with representatives of the industrial sector.
On the 3rd, the Ministry of Environment held a policy meeting with CEOs of member companies of the Korea Sustainable Development Business Council at the Grand Intercontinental Hotel in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
The meeting was organized to explore support measures for companies struggling due to COVID-19 and to discuss ways to utilize economic, social, and environmental changes in the post-COVID era as opportunities for innovative growth.
Company representatives reported that the industrial sector is experiencing an unprecedented crisis due to a sharp decline in sales and worsening liquidity caused by the COVID-19 situation, and they presented various opinions regarding compliance with environmental regulations.
In response, Minister Cho said, "Through various communication channels, we are well aware of the difficult situation faced by the industrial sector due to COVID-19," and explained, "We have been implementing various support measures such as consulting on chemical substance registration for the industrial sector and expanding support funds for fostering the environmental industry."
He added, "Going forward, while upholding the fundamental purpose and principles of public safety and environmental policies, we will spare no effort to provide necessary support so that the system can be properly established in the field and review whether there are any regulations that do not fit reality."
He continued, "The economic and social recovery process after COVID-19 must be a process of overcoming both economic and environmental crises simultaneously," and stated, "Through green transition, the Korean-style Green New Deal, which achieves climate and environmental goals along with strengthening national competitiveness, will become a new engine for innovative growth."
