Guri-si Takes Proactive Measures to Prevent Urban Flooding
[Asia Economy (Guri) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Guri City in Gyeonggi Province is undertaking maintenance of aging sewer pipes and urban flood prevention projects to prevent loss of life and property damage caused by urban flooding.
Guri City is carrying out a maintenance project for aging sewer pipes within the jurisdiction with a total project cost of 1.9 billion KRW. The main maintenance targets are eight drainage sub-basins, including Achiul and Doldari, covering a total length of 1.92 km.
The city is also investing a total of 4 billion KRW to carry out urban flood prevention projects.
The main project area is the drainage basin of Inchang Rainwater Pump Station in the Inchang-dong area (administrative district Donggudong).
The city has completed administrative procedures such as detailed design services and consultations on funding with the Ministry of Environment, and will carry out construction from this month until May next year.

An Seung-nam, mayor of Guri City, emphasized, "The sewer pipe maintenance project is being carried out to proactively prevent road subsidence and damage caused by heavy rain by repairing aging sewer pipes," adding, "We will do our best to minimize inconvenience to citizens during the construction period."
