Cumulative Confirmed Cases Near 155,000... Confirmation Rate Also Rising
[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] As the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Iran begins to rise again, the cumulative number of confirmed cases is approaching 155,000.
On the 1st (local time), the Iranian Ministry of Health reported that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases increased by 2,979 as of noon. This is the highest number of new daily confirmed cases since April 1. It is close to the level seen at the end of March when COVID-19 was spreading severely. As a result, the cumulative number of confirmed cases has been identified as 154,445. The cumulative death toll increased by 81 on the same day, reaching 7,878. The number of new deaths is the highest since April 27.
As the number of daily tests increases, the infection rate has also risen, indicating that the number of infected people is increasing. In fact, the number of daily tests on this day increased by 75 (0.4%) compared to the previous day, while the number of new confirmed cases increased by 463 (18.4%). Accordingly, the positive rate rose from 12.6% to 14.9%.
Previously, Iran's daily new confirmed cases had decreased to 802 on the 2nd of last month after about a month of lockdown measures. However, since reopening Islamic shrines on the 30th of last month, the number has been rapidly increasing again.

Saeed Namaki, Iran's Minister of Health, warned, "The COVID-19 situation is not over yet and may even worsen compared to before," adding, "If everyone does not follow hygiene guidelines, we may have to prepare for the worst-case scenario."
