Court Dismisses Second Appeal in National Lawsuit on Wolseong Unit 1 Lifespan Extension
First Trial's 'License Extension Cancellation Ruling' Confirmed as Permanent Suspension... Grounds for Lawsuit Disappear
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] On the 29th, the court dismissed the appeal in the lawsuit filed by 2,167 citizens, including residents living near Wolseong Unit 1 in Gyeongju, against the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission seeking to cancel the license extension.
Dismissing means ending the trial procedure without judging the claim itself if the lawsuit or application does not meet the requirements.
In the first trial in February 2017, the court ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, ordering the cancellation of the license extension for Wolseong Unit 1 on the grounds that the extension procedure was not lawful.
In December of last year, the NSSC confirmed the permanent shutdown of Wolseong Unit 1 through a vote.
