At the electric bus test drive event held on the 27th, Hyundai Motor Company's large Elec City 256 and medium-sized County Electric electric buses, selected last month, were showcased for the first time. The medium-sized electric van, County Electric, was unveiled in Pohang City for the first time on this day.
The test drive event was conducted on a 7 km route from Pohang City Hall to Idong Intersection, E-Mart, Yanghak-dong, Ogwang Square, Intercity Terminal, and back to City Hall, with a transfer at Ogwang Square. Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang and Han Jin-wook, Vice Chairman of the City Council, experienced explanations about the electric buses as well as their comfort and safety during the ride.
This year, the city bus routes in Pohang will be reorganized from the current 109 routes with 200 buses to 119 routes with 263 buses. Ten new routes will add 63 buses (18 large, 45 medium-sized).
Regarding the additional 63 buses, due to the growing public concern about air quality and damage caused by fine dust, all will be electric buses. Currently, there are 11 models from 4 domestic manufacturers and 20 models from 9 foreign manufacturers certified by the Ministry of Environment for large electric buses. For medium-sized electric buses, there are 3 models from 2 domestic manufacturers and 4 models from 4 foreign manufacturers.
